getting ready for retirement
Preparing for Retirement
I was inspired to write this column by a fellow blogger. This blogger is looking for suggestions as to what he should do during his retirement years. One's retirement years can potentially be the best years of your life. First thing you are going to need is enough money to be comfortable. You will also need enough money for your hobbies. If you constantly have to worry about money it will be difficult to enjoy your retirement. If this is an issue you may have to look for part time work on temporary work. It will be good if you could still have approximately half the week for your leisure activities. I would also recommend getting a job that will not be very stressful. Retirement is to be enjoyed and is to be as stress-free as possible.
The next thing you are going to need for a successful retirement is good health. If you have been taking care of yourself right up to retirement hopefully this will not be much of a problem. If you have health issues you may have to moderate your plan. Try to find ways to regain your health. If you previously worked at a very stressful job, you may find much of your health returning once you've stopped working. Stress can really play havoc with your health. It is not unusual to see much of your health returning after you have left a stressful work situation. This is something to look forward to. During retirement you will now have extra time to look after your health. If you had a regular exercise schedule prior to retirement this is a bonus. You will now have time to extend your regular exercise routine. Also, you should have more time available to book and attend appointments with healthcare professionals. After working you may find you have more control over your diet. This is also a critical factor in maintaining your health. With less stress in your life you may also be able to quit smoking if you are a smoker. Quitting or cutting back on your smoking is probably the best thing you can do for your health.
Retirement is a time of life when you can hopefully start doing the things you want to do. Some of these things will be things that you have already been doing except now you will have more time for them. In my next columns I will relate some of the things that I have been able to do with my retirement time.
