Act 6 Scene 2 (cont.)

Floyd:  But it better go a lot better than my last interview with those guys. All they wanted to know was how I liked working with Andy Griffith and the rest of the cast. They didn’t want to know anything about my character, Floyd the Barber.

Dusty: Well Floyd, Andy, Barney, Aunt Bea and Obie are all pretty popular in Roswell.

Floyd:  I know and I just can’t figure it out. All of those other actors on the show can’t act worth a hill of beans. Most people don’t know this but Andy Griffith can’t even remember his lines. Half the time I have to whisper my lines to him from behind Aunt Bea’s couch. Believe me if they didn’t have me on that show it would be toast.

Narrator: While Floyd is talking he looks up at the big mirror behind Dusty and can see Dennis and Jane sitting at a table near the back of the bar.

Floyd: Hey Floyd, who’s that guy sitting with Jane?

Dusty:  Didn’t you use to date that nurse?

Floyd:  Yeah, she was my girlfriend for the last two years. We just broke up a few weeks ago. I always suspected she was seeing another guy on the side.

Dusty:  That’s too bad Floyd. Anyway, the guy she’s sitting with is Dennis, the new mortician in town. He seems to be a nice enough guy.

Floyd:  I don’t care whether he’s a nice guy or not. I need to find out if Jane is dating this guy, but I don’t want her to see me.

Dusty: I’ve got an idea Floyd. You see that big rubber palm tree near the entrance of the bar.

Floyd:  Yeah, I see it.

Dusty:  Okay now listen up. You’re skinny enough to make this work. I want you to hide behind the palm tree. Lift the plant up and walk very slowly behind it taking a few steps at a time. Get as close as you can to Jane’s table so that you can hear them talking.

Floyd:  Great idea. You’re a genius. Dusty! Thanks a million buddy.

Dusty:  No problem Floyd.
