The Philadelphia Experiment
The
Philadelphia Experiment
During
the last couple of days I have been doing some research about the
Philadelphia Experiment. As you may have gathered from some of my
previous blogs I have an interest in subjects like cryptozoology,
UFOs, lake monsters and various other forms of unexplained phenomena.
There are several good sources of information on the Philadelphia
Experiment. I checked out a History Channel program called The True
Story of the Philadelphia Experiment. I also looked up the Wikipedia
article on The Philadelphia Experiment and watched the movie of the
same name made in 1984. The 1984 version of The Philadelphia
Experiment is now acclaimed as a cult classic. Having watched this
video I can see why.
The
Philadelphia Experiment refers to an alleged incident or incidents
that were claimed to have taken place sometime around October 28,
1943. The alleged experiments were attempts to make a US Navy
Destroyer,USS Eldridge invisible. According to some reports the ship
was not only made invisible to radar, it also achieved total
invisibility by totally vanishing from sight for a period of time.
After the ship returned to sight it was alleged that its crew
suffered severe after effects that ranged from nausea and mental
illness to men said to be fused right into the ship's bulkheads.
Like
the Roswell Incident of 1947 the Philadelphia Experiment was said to
be covered up by the US government. As I greatly enjoy writing about
science fiction themes in my plays and novels, this storyline is too
good to pass up and will likely appear in some fictionalized form in
some of my future writings.
